Saturday at 3:14am, Fair Lawn Police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on Plaza Road at Fair Lawn Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found a 29 year old male from Park Ridge on the ground with significant lower body injuries.
Witnesses reported that they were crossing Plaza Road at High Street (one block north of FL Ave) when they were almost struck by a blue 2006 Volkswagen Jetta.
When the vehicle stopped for a red light on Plaza Road (travelling south) at Fair Lawn Avenue, the group approached the vehicle where an altercation occurred between the victim and a passenger in the vehicle.
The passenger eventually pushed the victim down to the ground and returned to the vehicle.
The driver then proceeded to run over the victim and flee the scene.
As officers were investigating the incident and medical personnel were assisting the victim, a bystander reported to officers that he believed that a vehicle, parked in the parking lot in front of Wells Fargo Bank (22-11 Fair Lawn Avenue), may contain people involved in the initial crash.
When P.O. Geovanny Buitron & P.O. John Rovetto approached the vehicle to investigate, the vehicle ignored their commands to stop and attempted to flee in reverse.
Once stopped, the four occupants were taken out at gunpoint.
The driver of the Volkswagen, David Rodriguez, age 21 of Fair Lawn, was one of the passengers and was arrested. A second passenger, Danial Dushaj, age 21 of Dix Hills, NY, was arrested when he failed to comply to officer’s commands. The Volkswagen was located at the operator’s residence on Hartley Place in Fair Lawn and was impounded for investigative purposes. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson due to his injuries. Dushaj, who was found with marijuana after his arrest, was released after being charged with obstruction of justice and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
