FAIR LAWN, N.J. (WUNF) — Today at 4:51am, Fair Lawn Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the BP Gas Station which is located 401 Wagaraw Road.

According to the attendant, he was approached by a black male carrying a gas can, claiming that his car broke down. When the attendant turned to open the gas can, the suspect allegedly struck the attendant with an unknown silver object, then forced the attendant into the office where the actor pocketed approximately $600 and placed numerous packs of cigarettes into a black plastic bag before fleeing across the Lincoln Avenue bridge into Paterson.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a black baseball cap with a red rim and gloves.
Authorities, searching the area into Paterson where the individual fled, found a possible suspect on 5th Avenue, but the individual fled onto 16th Street and escaped authorities after running into backyards in the area.

Possible evidence was recovered in the area where the suspect fled.

The victim in the incident suffered facial injuries but refused further medical treatment.
