Burglar, recognized by victim the day after burglary, arrested by police after foot chase

FAIR LAWN, N.J. (WUNF) — On Wednesday March 2nd Fair Lawn Police Officer Timothy Ammann & P.O. Brian Rypkema responded to a residence on Essex Place on a reported burglary that had occurred after 8:00am the same day when the resident came home to find a side door to the residence ajar and numerous rooms in the home ransacked. Approximately $250 cash was taken from the home.

Video that was obtained from a neighbor’s surveillance system helped identify an unknown suspect.

Today, Thursday, at 11:36am, the victim of the burglary on Essex Place, who had been shown the video surveillance, identified the suspect walking by his residence and approached him while taking photographs of the suspect on his cellphone.  The suspect fled the scene into Paterson, but was located on 12th Avenue at East 30th Street by P.O. Ammann & P.O. Rypkema, where he attempted to run from the officers.

With assistance from P.O. Louis Failla, P.O. Ian Manelis, Sgt. Eric Leitman and officers from the Paterson Police, 22-year-old Abdulla Taylor, of Paterson, was found hiding behind a parked vehicle nearby and arrested.  He was charged with burglary and theft.  His bail was set at $2,500 with a 10% option and he was sent to Bergen County Jail.
