NEWARK, NJ (WUNF) – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray says that 18-year-old Shakur Loyal of East Orange sustained fatal injuries in a single vehicle crash.

On Monday, April 3rd at approximately 4:25 a.m., Newark Police Officers saw Loyal traveling at a high rate of speed in a Jacquar XF which was reported stolen out of Bridgewater — Officers attempted to pull Loyal over when he lost control of the vehicle and hit two unoccupied cars which were parked and then sheered a utility pole which then caused the vehicle to ignite in the vicinity of Irvine Turner Blvd and Clinton Avenue.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating.
