FAIR LAWN, N.J. (WUNF) — Det. Paul Donohue, Det. Peter Yuskaitis, Det. Karen Censullo, P.O. Mark Wyka & Det/Sgt. Tim O’Shaughnessy, after a month long investigation based on an anonymous tip, obtained and executed a search warrant to a residence on Elmary Place at 7:57 pm Thursday, where Michael Abelev, age 19 of Fair Lawn, and Jaewon Choi, age 20 of Fair Lawn, were both arrested as they were leaving the residence.
Inside the residence, detectives seized over one pound of marijuana, contained in mason jars and Tupperware containers, and assorted drug paraphernalia that included glass pipes, plastic baggies, sandwich bags, digital scales & grinders. Also seized was $16,126 in cash and assorted prescription pills packaged for distribution.
Abelev was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), two counts of possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public park & possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bail was set at $75,000. He is currently being held in Fair Lawn Police lock-up. Choi was released after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
While officers were on scene, a 2014 Volkswagen travelling on Elmary Place made an abrupt u-turn to leave the area and was stopped on Burbank Street at Floral Place by P.O. Nicholas Snyder & P.O. Edward Egan.
The operator, Edmond Elezaj, age 18 of Fair Lawn, was arrested after evidence of marijuana use was located inside his vehicle. He was released after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving and provisional driving violation.
