FAIR LAWN, NEW JERSEY (UNF NEWS) – Hawthorne, New Jersey Mayor John Lane says that the Nabisco implosion in Fair Lawn, NJ that was previously scheduled for April 15, 2023 was cancelled due to contaminants such as asbestos being found in the building. Fair Lawn, New Jersey said that the RandD building and Maintenance Building would be 100% cleared of all asbestos on or before Friday, March 17, 2023 and that Asbestos abatement was complete in the main building. Mayor of Hawthorne John Lane, said that Asbestos was still found. The Department of Environmental Protection was notified, and they issued an order to have the implosion cancelled until such time that all of the asbestos is removed and that they have the opportunity to physically inspect the building. When the building is proved to be asbestos-free, then the DEP will issue a letter to the contractor stating that the implosion can move forward.
