NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (UNF NEWS) – Shooting in Newark, New Jersey on May 11, 2023. A shooting took place in the area of Grafton Avenue and Clifton Avenue Thursday evening in Newark, New Jersey. Several police vehicles could be seen at the scene. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé announced that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting of Romulo Luzuriaga, 57, of Newark, New Jersey. On May 11, 2023 at 10:25 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at the 200 block of Grafton Avenue in Newark. Police located Luzuriaga in a car suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:05 p.m. The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made.
