One Man Dead, Another Injured In Monday Morning Shooting In Newark, New Jersey

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (UNF NEWS) – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé announced that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating a Newark shooting that left one man dead and another injured. On May 22, 2023 at 12:10 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Riverview Court in Newark. Police found Jamid Hardgrove, 22, of Newark, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:02 a.m. The other male victim was taken to University Hospital and treated for non-fatal injuries. The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
